Background

The British International School, Riyadh is a non-selective, co-educational day school, catering for English-speaking children aged 3 to 18. We provide a high quality education based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. The teaching staff is composed partly of teachers recruited from the United Kingdom and partly of qualified and experienced teachers from the local expatriate community. Our main source of income is fees paid by parents or their employers. The School is a non-profit making organisation and financial control is overseen by the Board of Governors and is independently audited on an annual basis.

Foundation

In September 1979, with the support of the British and Dutch Embassies in Saudi Arabia, the Riyadh Continental School was opened in a large villa order to fulfil the educational needs of the local expatriate community.

In March 1981 the School was incorporated into the Saudi Arabian International Schools under arrangements made by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Education. The School expanded rapidly from its original 212 pupils and in 1982 moved to another site in the Rawdah district.

The present purpose built premises, situated within the south-eastern corner of Al Hamra Compound, near Exit 9 of the Airport/Al Kharj Highway, was opened in September 1995.
