KEY STAGE 5

Introduction
The Sixth Form at the British International School, Riyadh is a fantastic opportunity for students to join what has become a vibrant, dynamic and purposeful section of the school.  We aim to provide an environment where students can reach their potential, where expectations are high and where students are encouraged to make a positive contribution to the school community.  Students will take up positions of responsibility to enhance their status as positive role models for younger students.  All Sixth Form students carry out various forms of service to the school under the guidance of their tutors.

Tutor Groups
Each student is assigned to a Sixth Form tutor who monitors their progress throughout the year.  In tutor groups and in weekly meetings, tutors give invaluable advice on matters such as managing the transition from Year 11 into Year 12, working independently, careers and university choices.

Subjects
We offer a variety of AS and A Levels in the Sixth Form.  These form a natural continuation after GCSE/ IGCSE studies.  A Levels are an internationally recognised qualification and allow access to the best universities all over the world.  We currently offer the following subjects:

Arabic, Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Design Technology, Economics, English, French, Geography, History, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Spanish

Subject Choices and Entrance requirements

Students will normally study four subjects at AS level in Year 12 and most will continue with three in Year 13.  This allows a greater breadth of study and the flexibility to take their strongest subjects forward.  In order to join the Sixth Form, the expectation is that students achieve at least 6 A*-C grades at GCSE level or equivalent.  Students need to achieve at least a B in the subjects they study at AS level (if applicable).  Once Year 11 students have made their initial subject choices the Sixth Form timetable is created.  We do our utmost to accommodate all choices, but cannot guarantee that all combinations will be possible.

Sixth Form Enrichment
Alongside their academic studies, Sixth Formers also take part in sports and the programme offers a great deal of variety for everyone.  In addition to our own excellent sporting accommodation, we are lucky to have access to the excellent facilities at Al Hamra and this gives students the chance to organise their own programme and develop their own independence. Personal and Social Education and Citizenship both have timetabled sessions.

Finally
I very much hope that you will decide that the Sixth Form at the British International School, Riyadh is the right environment for you to carry on your studies.  We aim for it to be an intellectually challenging and stimulating Sixth Form where hard work and participation is encouraged and supported and where the students are valued in all their dealings around the school.
