This year’s Art Week supported and collaborated with the music department and Mr Egon Liepa, in the wonderful musical production ‘Ocean Commotion’. The children from Foundation stage to Key stage 2 created the scenery and props for this exciting musical. We are delighted that the older children from the upper school, with the support of their art department, also created art work to display in school, under this theme.
Our Top 10 winners, as featured on the page are: Caitlin Louey, Nelson Carter, Gabrielle Gitzner, Nour Amkia, Luhara Outshoorn, Nehla Farhan, Hannah Meredith, Charlotte Bulkely, Megan Boocock and Fatima Naqvi. Congratulations to all.
Parents were invited into school from Foundation to KS2 to view the wonderful art displays at the end of Art Week. The J-Hall was transformed into an under sea world ready for the play to be performed by the Year 4 children, to the school and parents on the 20th of June. The refreshments enjoyed by all, were sponsored by The Sheraton Hotel and Al Jomaih Beverage Company.
Art Week related projects included a fun art competition where children were asked to create the cover page for the ‘Ocean Commotion’ programme. Ten winners were chosen with one overall winner and this design was used for the programme and all related Art Week correspondence. All children taking part in the competition received a certificate of participation, so that all children were recognised for their effort.
In the past few years Art Week has with your generous support raised funds for different charities. This year we did the same. We will once again support our Duke of Edinburgh students, who will visit the three orphanages in Nepal in November. Our students have committed to this charity again this year and we raised funds for this project through the art week fund raising initiatives.
An art celebration assembly on the 20th June 2011 signified the end of an incredible art week. In an exciting under sea scene the J hall showcased the artistic talents of our students. We awarded students who took part in the art competition and students from Year 6 led this colourful occasion.
The Duke of Edinburgh students, gold level award, received a staggering SR24 000 raised through the sale of the beverage mugs, Art Week caps, the ‘Happy Hat’ and ‘non uniform’ day.
