On the 14th of May, students from years 8 to 10 went on an unforgettable History/French trip to Belgium and Paris. This trip included many exciting activities from visits to war sites to bike rides along the paved roads of Brugge.
The day of arrival at Brussels, we visited the Palais de Justice where we had the opportunity to see the real courtrooms. This day was short due to the fact that most of us were exhausted from our journey! The next day, however, was packed. We took a coach to Ypres, where the lucky History students had the chance to see the preserved trenches, cemeteries and craters all dating back from World War 1.
On the third day, we proceeded to the breath taking city of Brugge. Here, some students went on an amazing, yet extremely tiring, two to three hour bike tour, where they saw windmills and much more. Other students preferred to take a leisurely canal ride. We also visited a Choco-Story Museum that gave us an inside look on one of Belgium’s most famed products. It would be an understatement to say that some of us went a little crazy with the chocolate.
The next day, was probably one of the more memorable days of this trip. In the early morning, we took another coach to the amusement park, Parc Astertix, which was just outside Paris. Here, we spent the whole day enjoying ourselves to the maximum on the many rides. In the evening, we made our way into Paris.
The last day was dedicated to the sightseeing of Paris. We visited the Sacre-Couer and Notre Dame Cathedrals and of course the famous Eiffel Tower. In the afternoon we travelled to the Place de Tetre where many of us had portraits done. Afterwards we strolled through the Avenue de Champs-Elysées and got a glimpse of the well known Arc de Triomphe at dusk. This was indeed an extraordinary sight.
This trip was certainly one the most exciting and fun filled trips that our school has taken. It was obviously a little sad for us leaving, yet the events and experiences of this 6 day trip will always remain as cherished memories.
