Pastoral Care

We aim consistently to raise standards of Citizenship. Staff use Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) lessons in conjunction with assemblies and the constant stream of daily personal interactions to teach pupils a strong sense of propriety. We underpin our teaching with traditional values including honesty, trust, integrity, reliability, care, courtesy, consideration, self-discipline and appropriateness of appearance. Staff take great care to involve pupils in their own social progress by helping them to develop high levels of self-respect, self-confidence and self-esteem. We encourage pupils to be independent also interdependent. This prepares them for the challenges that they will face as individuals and members of society.

By making a positive contribution to our school community each pupil develops an increasing awareness of their sense of responsibility towards themselves, each other and the school. Pupils are given responsibility and a voice in school issues through the Junior and Senior School Councils.

The British International School has a very strict zero tolerance policy towards drugs (including tobacco) and illegal substances. This policy supports the laws that apply within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As part of our drug awareness and education programme, and by adhering to the National Curriculum, pupils in:

Key Stage 1:  are taught about the role of drugs as medicines

Key Stage 2:  are taught that tobacco, alcohol and other drugs can have harmful effects

KeyStage 3:

Year7 Year 8 Year 9

Key Stage 4: are taught that the abuse of alcohol, solvents and other drugs affect health
